Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Rivington and Blackrod High School and Sixth Form, we believe every student should have the opportunity to develop their potential. We recognise that some students may need additional support during their time at school.

We work with students, parents and carers, teaching staff and external agencies to understand each young person’s needs and provide appropriate support. Our SEND policies and information report explain this approach in more detail.

What are Special Educational Needs?

A student may have a special educational need if they have a learning difficulty or disability that calls for educational provision that is additional to, or different from, that generally made for students of the same age. The support needed will depend on the individual student.

What is a Disability?

Under the Equality Act 2010, a person has a disability if they have a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. A student may have a special educational need, a disability, or both.

We consider each student’s individual circumstances and work with families to identify appropriate support.
